Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

Could take responsibility for drawing the item of clothing in the group task; could draw two to three classroom objects (scissors, water bottle and paper clip) as an alternative to the Activity: parts of a bike, labelling the materials they are made from and verbally explaining why the materials are suitable; could watch the Pupil video: Parts of a bike before the lesson.

Pupils working at greater depth

Should take responsibility for writing about the material’s suitability in the group task; could explain why certain materials (glass, fabric, rock) are not suitable for bike parts (e.g. glass is too fragile for a bike frame, fabric is not rigid enough for pedals and rock would make handlebars to  heavy, tipping the bike forwards).
