Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

Can work with an adult in small groups, starting with obvious cognates, discussing what each word means. Correctly place each noun in the corresponding le or la fruit basket, using their own words and pictures grid for assistance.

Pupils working at greater depth

Can be challenged to work out less familiar words, e.g. citron. Encourage them to look for patterns in nouns to ascertain their gender. Challenge children to recall other previously learned French words, including the definite article le/la. Can they think of other words with the ‘oi‘, ‘on‘, ‘ge‘ phonemes in?
