Differentiation
Pupils needing extra support: Could use fewer classroom items; instead of the Tu as..? question, simply name the item name and answer oui or non to say if they have it or not.
Pupils working at greater depth:Could be challenged to construct sentences independently using the full range of vocabulary; could begin to develop extended sentences using the conjunctions et/mais – and/but.

During the week
Activities
- Find excuses during the day to ask children for different items you need.
- Use the Activity: Mini pencil case flashcards to play this card game, based on happy families:Organise the children in groups of four. Shuffle and deal out one set of cards between them. The cards comprise sets of four matching cards (for example, four pencils). The aim is for the children to collect all four of a set and as many sets as possible. The children take it in turns to ask someone if they have a card to match one of the ones in the hand they were dealt – using the question:
Tu as un/une…?
If the person they chose has one or more of that item, they must answer:
Oui, j’ai un/une…
They must then pass over all the cards for that item and the player asking has another turn.
If the person they chose does not have that item, they must answer:
Non, je n’ai pas de…
Play moves to the next player.
Once someone has collected a set of four matching cards they can put them down on the table. The first person to play all of their cards wins.
These mini cards can be used for a whole range of different activities. Invite the children to come up with their own game ideas
