Pupils needing extra support: Revisiting the first two paragraphs, children can work in supported groups to discuss the meaning of the text, highlighting familiar words and using the vocabulary list for support. Once they have a clearer understanding of the text, they can discuss the answers to the questions.
Pupils working at greater depth: Challenge the more confident children to read some of the text out loud to practise their fluency skills. Some children could help pupils needing support to look at different strategies of understanding the text.
Wrapping up
During the week
- Explain that you can have a career as a translator, for example in business, law, education, publishing, for the police, in hospitals and in TV and film. Discuss other careers where languages are key, such as a holiday representative, tour guide, languages teacher, children’s book writer, blogger, speaker, seller, YouTuber or Podcaster, and jobs in the leisure industry like hotels and restaurants.
- For the following lesson, research how to travel to France on the internet. Find out how much it costs to go camping with a tent, rent a holiday house; what budget would you need for food?
