Recap and recall
Display the Presentation: 3, 2, 1 and hand out whiteboards and pens (one between two). Working in pairs, ask the children to work together and write down three things they learned about Henry VIII, two things they found interesting and one question they still have.

Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support:
Should use Activity: A royal marriage: support version which includes fewer marriage requirements for the children to explore in the Main event; could use the Tudor family tree on the Knowledge organiser to support the chronology of the wives.
Pupils working at greater depth:
Could compare marriage requirements in the Tudor period to other periods they have explored, including now; could reflect on why Henry VIII needed an heir as a monarch; could make connections between Henry VIII’s treatment of his wives to the interpretation historians have of Henry VIII as a tyrant or fair ruler; could consider how Henry VIII or his wives could have improved their chances of a successful Tudor marriage.
