Pupils needing extra support

Could be given pre-cut images of the six mystery items to physically match to the smelling pots in the smelling challenge (see Resource: Smelling challenge picture clues); could be given a blindfold and physically guided around a large outdoor space (linking arms with a partner/adult and walking in different directions) as an alternative to the puddle challenge.

Pupils working at greater depth

Could complete the smelling challenge without looking at the picture clues; could write words to describe the six smells on their activity sheets for the smelling challenge (e.g. strong, spicy, yummy, sweet, fresh or minty).
