Recap and recall

Before starting this unit, you might want to check the children can recall that: In Spanish, hello is ¡Hola! and goodbye is adiós. (See Spanish, Year 3, Spanish greetings with puppets.) The words ¡Hola! and adiós contain the key phonemes ‘o‘ and ‘a‘ (see Pupil phonics videos if practice is required).

Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

Could use a printed copy of Resource: Numbers one to six to help work out the number sentences and rehearse the numbers in sequence; could use the audio from the presentation for additional repetition practice.

Pupils working at greater depth

Could discuss strategies for remembering the number words and any similarities with English or other languages; should attempt to use vocabulary from the number sentences to make up questions of their own.
