Eco-Schools mapping document
Kapow Primary is now working in partnership with Eco-schools to support schools following the Eco-schools programme and to achieve the Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation. The programme provides a simple, seven-step framework which empowers young people to make a difference in their school, local community and beyond.
Step 4 of the Eco-Schools programme requires schools to link climate change to at least three areas of curriculum learning during the year. This document is designed to assist schools using the Kapow curriculum to make those links, helping them to identify which lessons already link to the Eco-Schools’ ten topics (p. 3-5) and where there are further opportunities to adapt lessons to link to these topics (p.6-9).
French: Assessment spreadsheet — mixed-age
This spreadsheet can be used to store your teacher assessments and is aimed at those following our mixed-age French primary curriculum.
It supports teachers in making judgements about how pupils are performing in French as a subject by giving the percentage of lessons where they have been working towards, demonstrating secure understanding and working at greater depth.
It can also be used to identify areas where your class is confident in their French learning or where they may need further attention, as it gives a percentage of pupils in the class who are working towards a secure understanding and working at greater depth.

Addressing Primary Art Assessment Challenges
Kapow Primary understands that assessing art in primary schools is a complex task, often hindered by the application of linear assessment strategies meant for core subjects. Their tool offers a fresh perspective, acknowledging that learning in art is non-linear and revolves around creativity, technique, and expressive skills, beyond mere facts and knowledge.
Empowering Teachers with Confidence
Many educators face a lack of confidence in their artistic abilities and knowledge. Kapow Primary’s tool demystifies art assessment, providing clear guidance on evaluating practical skills, generating ideas, and the use of sketchbooks. This approach empowers teachers, regardless of their art background, ensuring they can confidently assess and nurture young artistic talents.
Bridging the Gap in Practical Skills Assessment
The tool addresses the gap in assessing practical skills in art. While traditional methods like quizzes and spreadsheets assess knowledge acquisition, Kapow Primary’s tool focuses on the practical strands of art and design, offering a more rounded evaluation of a child’s artistic progress.
A Versatile and Comprehensive Approach
The visual assessment tool is versatile, allowing educators to tailor it to their school’s specific needs. It builds a holistic picture of each child’s progress in art, encompassing making skills, idea generation, and effective use of sketchbooks. This comprehensive approach ensures a balanced and thorough assessment of each pupil’s artistic journey.
A Guide, Not a Dictat
Kapow Primary emphasises that their art scheme and assessment tool are designed to cultivate creativity and embrace diverse outputs from individual expression.
