How does Kapow Primary’s French scheme ensure coverage of statutory guidance in the national curriculum?
Foreign language teaching is compulsory in key stage 2. From the Ofsted research review series: languages, Kapow Primary’s subject specialists have identified three knowledge strands: phonics; vocabulary; and grammar, and two skills strands: language comprehension (listening and reading); and language production (speaking and writing), for learning a foreign language. These strands, or ‘pillars’ are used to help children learn and communicate in French. The programme also promotes cultural awareness of France and the French-speaking world.
This document shows clearly how Kapow Primary’s French curriculum gives coverage of the statutory guidance outlined in the KS2 national curriculum for languages. Each of our individual lessons also show which national curriculum attainment targets pupils are working towards within the lesson. Each lesson is hyperlinked for easy access, and the document is regularly updated.
The starred (*) units are those which are wholly or partially included in our Long-term plan: Condensed version. This scheme is ideal for schools with limited curriculum time, and ensures that pupils will have opportunities to work towards all of the national curriculum statements for Languages.
If your school decides to adapt or omit a unit, this document can help you to plan accordingly, ensuring that you do not leave any gaps in your coverage of the national curriculum for Languages.
