A user-friendly reference document demonstrating how our RSE & PSHE scheme of work supports personal development, including SMSC and British values.
Can I teach SMSC, British values and Personal development through my RSE & PSHE lessons?
Yes! At Kapow Primary, we recognise the importance of a comprehensive and well-rounded curriculum that reinforces cross-curricular links. We have prepared an easily accessible document that demonstrates how each of our RSE (Relationships and sex education) and PSHE (Personal, social, health and economic) units for Key Stage 1 and 2 aligns with Ofsted’s SMSC (Spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development) descriptors. By mapping the units against the statements they cover, you can quickly see how our RSE and PSHE scheme provides coverage of the SMSC descriptors.
We have also identified the areas where our RSE and PSHE curriculum can help schools promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. In addition, our document highlights the Personal development criteria set by Ofsted, and we have identified the opportunities for students to develop in each of these aspects through our lessons and units.
Please note that the curriculum alone cannot demonstrate that your school promotes students’ personal development. You should also showcase how other aspects of school life contribute to this.
