Lesson 2: Craft: Weaving a picture

Children learn the craft of weaving, overlapping coloured strips of paper to create a checkerboard, then selecting a shape to overlay onto the weave and decorating

Pupils needing extra support: Some students will find cutting the strips difficult and this may be done beforehand. However, it is better if they at least have a go, to try to develop their skills – you can have some strips in reserve in case children need them. Photocopies for the overlay template may be easier for some less able pupils.

 

Pupils working at greater depth: More able pupils might create more sophisticated weaves, perhaps using two sheets of hand painted paper they have prepared earlier. More able pupils might also support less able pupils to help them with tricky operations such as sticking the tape in the correct place, cutting and weaving accurately, etc.
