Lesson 5: Drawing: Still life

Children look at the still life artworks of Giorgio Morandi and then arrange a collection of objects in an interesting way to sketch, drawing the outlines of the objects before adding in light, medium and dark tones to their work

Learning objective

  • To arrange and draw a still-life image from observation

National curriculum

Pupils should be taught to:

  • Create sketchbooks to record their observations and use them to review and revisit ideas
  • To improve their mastery of Art and design techniques, including drawing, painting and sculpture with a range of materials [for example, pencil, charcoal, paint, clay]

Pupils needing extra support: Will probably need one to one demonstration of holding the pencil, especially with lighter tones. They may need support with drawing the outlines.

 

Pupils working at greater depth: Should be encouraged to work as accurately as possible to recreate the dark and light tones.
