Lesson 2: Drawing: Zentangle patterns - Option 2: Christmas themed

National curriculum

The national curriculum for art and design aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
  • Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design 

 

KS2:

  • To improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including drawing, painting and sculpture with a range of materials [for example, pencil, charcoal, paint, clay]

Differentiation

Pupils needing extra support: Can use very simple patterns as they develop confidence, such as zig-zag lines, small circles, etc.

They may find it easier to just draw with a pencil; they may also be more comfortable with more straightforward templates with fewer areas to fill. 

 

Pupils working at greater depth: Should be asked to work more creatively with their patterns and designs and to a high technical level, considering how the type of pattern used can imply shade and light according to its density.
