Learning objective

  • To safely follow a recipe when cooking.

National curriculum

Pupils should be taught to:

  • Understand and apply the principles of a healthy and varied diet.
  • Prepare and cook a variety of predominantly savoury dishes using a range of cooking techniques.
  • Understand seasonality, and know where and how a variety of ingredients are grown, reared, caught and processed.

Differentiation

Pupils needing extra support: They may need support following the recipe method and increased one-to-one assistance when cutting tougher ingredients or dealing with different textures and shapes. Consider par-boiling ingredients to make their preparation more manageable.

Pupils working at greater depth: They should be encouraged to work independently to follow the recipes, ensuring all ingredients, where applicable, are measured accurately. If they finish ahead of time, allow them to verbally support others.
