Lesson 3: Paper weaving: Option 1

Pupils look the work of Anni Albers and use strips of paper to create a weave, familiarising themselves with terms such as 'warp' and 'weft'

Learning objective

  • To learn what paper weaving is and create a piece of art using this method

National curriculum

Pupils should be taught to:

  • Develop their techniques, including their control and their use of materials
  • Improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including weaving
  • Learn about great artists, architects and designers in history

Differentiation

Pupils needing extra support: May need help from the teacher or TA to decide on colours that are reflective of the mood board and drawing zig-zag/wavy guidelines on their second piece of paper to cut along.

 

Pupils working at greater depth: Might complete a basic ‘tabby’ weave (as taught in this lesson) and try a different style. Missing out two warps each time instead of one creates a diagonal pattern in the weave.
