Lesson plan

Recap and recall

Before starting this unit, you might want to check the children can recall: Complex lines and marks might begin to show texture. Shapes and marks that are sketched lightly can be refined. Shading can show tone (light and dark areas).

Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

Could outline the basic shapes over the top of the images on the Activity: Plant images; could use the Activity: Sketching, where shapes are pre-drawn and ready to trace over or be used as shape templates; could choose from a limited number of items with fewer shapes, such as a leaf or simple flower; could have slide 4 of the Presentation: See like an artist displayed on the board and use it as an example when they complete their own sketches.

Pupils working at greater depth

Should select more complex objects; could use shading to add tone.
