Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

Could use the Activity: Shading skills (support version) to help guide them in applying light, medium and dark shading gradually; should try a wider or triangular-shaped pencil or a rubber grip to soften and support their hand (a writing slope might help too).

Pupils working at greater depth

Could choose one of the shapes on the Activity: Tonal picture templates, sketch its outline on drawing paper and then shade in; could draw their own shape to shade inside; could complete the same activity in colours to achieve a tonal range; could blend with their fingers or a soft tissue, without losing the tonal differences.
