Lesson 4: Giant spider model part 1 (Original scheme)

Working as a class to recreate Louise Bourgeois' 'Maman' spider sculpture (1999), the children will plan and create the legs and body of the spider

  • to develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using shape, form and space
  • about the work of a range of artists, craft makers and designers, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and making links to their own work.

Pupils needing extra support: Some may find it hard to roll the paper tightly and will need some assistance.

Pupils working at greater depth: Suggest how the arrangement of the struts can make the model more even e.g. “we need to add an extra strut to this leg as it’s thinner than the others.”
