Recap and recall

Hand out the children’s sketchbooks. Ask them to review their design from Lesson 4 and discuss with a partner what message they are communicating through their artwork (or see if their partner can guess). Ask them to point out key features used, such as proportion, one point perspective and other techniques, like mark making.

Should use materials that are familiar to them; should have their plan in their sketchbooks visible at all times; could take brain breaks.

Pupils working at greater depth

Should take a multi-material approach; should consider working in layers, for example, painting the background to add colour first and working on top to add more details; should explain their ideas, process and choices as they work.
