Recap and recall

Remind children of prior experience with block coding; this could have been in Year 2 with a piece of software like ScratchJr or in Year 3 with Scratch. Display this example of block code and ask if they can remember anything about it.

Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

Could use slides three and four in the Presentation: Programming the LED to flash to help them build their code; could be encouraged to check what is the same and what is different between their code and that displayed on the slides.

 

Pupils working at greater depth

Could explore beyond the prescribed code; could, during pauses in the videos, see if they can suggest code blocks that might come next – particularly during the second video; could try using the show LEDs block and changing which LEDs light up to create a unique pattern; could move on to the extension task.
