Support and challenge

Adults can use the opportunity to discuss and/or support with:

  • Encouraging the children to talk about what they can feel, smell, hear and see as they create their nature catchers.
  • Identifying the different features of natural objects.
  • Naming the natural objects.
  • Introducing and supporting the use of new vocabulary.

Making your own nature catcher alongside the children and narrating as you do so will encourage conversation and help to easily introduce new vocabulary.

Vocabulary

  • natural objects names (e.g. leaf, flower, twig, bark, feather, seed, etc.)

  • senses words (e.g. smell, touch, feel, sound, look, colour, soft, hard, spiky, tickly, rough, etc.)
