About the lessons
In line with the DfE’s 2020 Model Music Curriculum guidance, Kapow Primary’s KS2 whole-class instrumental scheme is a progressive collection of 30 lessons, teacher videos and accompanying staff notation teacher skills videos.
Each unit of lessons focusses on music from a different part of the world and features a bespoke piece of music composed specifically for the scheme and includes sheet music, performance and backing tracks.
The lessons are written for tuned percussion instruments because: they are accessible for non-specialists to teach; are effective for learning pitch notation because the note names are written on the bars and are already available in many schools.
The scheme should be taught in the following order:
Unit 1: South Africa
Unit 2: Caribbean
Unit 3: South America
Unit 4: Indonesia
Unit 5: India
Unit 6: North America
All the music in this unit was specially composed for Kapow Primary by the talented Kay Charlton
