Lesson 3: Minimalist melodies

Experiencing the music of Steve Reich, the children become more familiar with the features of minimalist music and begin to learn the piece 'Interlocking patterns' on tuned percussion.

  • To play an interlocking minimalist melody in two parts from staff notation

Differentiation

Pupils needing extra support:  Could work from the Sheet music: Interlocking patterns (voices 1 and 2), and can also write the letter names over the top of the notes if necessary. They will find tuned percussion Part 2 easier to sing/play.

 

Pupils working at greater depth: Can play tuned percussion part 1, as this part requires the children to know when to stop playing.
