Pupils needing extra support: Rotate around the class giving support where this is needed. If anyone is struggling to ‘read’ the notation, remind them that they already know the patterns because they learned them by ear at the start of the lesson.
Pupils working at greater depth: Give these children the bass line part to play – C C F G, which is slightly more complicated as it does not move by step.
If you have children in your class who have instrumental lessons on another instrument, there are various options for you to make useful connections between their extra-curricular and curriculum learning.
If they play a melody instrument, you can give them the sheet music for the ‘lead part’ to take along to their instrumental lesson and learn with their teacher. We have provided two versions, one at concert pitch (most instruments) and one for B flat instruments (some brass and woodwind instruments).
If they play a chord instrument (such as the guitar), we have provided the chord sheet music to take along to their instrumental lesson and learn with their teacher.
(The instrumental teacher will appreciate a copy of the guide track as well).
