Recap and recall
Display the Presentation: Anagrams and hand out whiteboards and pens (one each). Ask the children to unscramble the names of the characters from the Christmas story and write down each character’s reaction to Jesus’ birth.

Could focus on ‘Leaving the garden’ or ‘The birth of Jesus’ extracts, which they will already be familiar with; could use the Resource: Bible chronology: support version during the Main event as a reminder of the key events.
Pupils working at greater depth
Could suggest why Christmas may or may not be the most important part of the big story; should focus on the ‘Jesus’ ascension’ extract which they are less likely to be familiar with; could look up the extracts in a paper or online Bible and read directly from there.
