Activity

Support and challenge

  • Support the children in threading the beads by wrapping tape around the end of the string or yarn.
  • Provide pipe cleaners instead of string, as they are easier to thread and keep beads in place.
  • Give the children cut-up cardboard tubes to thread as an alternative to beads.
  • Challenge the children to create a pattern with the beads for example, using alternating colours to represent different thoughts.
  • Challenge the children to give each bead a meaning, thinking about what it represents to them. For example, ‘The yellow bead is my favourite toy.
