Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

Should use the Resource: How to help someone who is choking: support, while practising the steps on their teddy, as this resource provides written and visual reminders of each step; could, if required, just focus on the three main steps – five back blows, five tummy thrusts, call 999.

Pupils working at greater depth

Should be challenged to explain why each step of helping someone who is choking is important; should be challenged to explain what makes certain foods or objects choking hazards, especially for young children; could research how the steps would be altered if they were being carried out on an infant.
