Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support
Could be given pre-prepared word cards (roots, stem, leaves and flower) to stick on to their work for the main task; could create a flowering plant using craft materials (string for the roots, a straw for the stem, green paper for the leaves and a muffin case for the flower); could perform a non-speaking part in the drama task, such as pretending to be the sun or the soil).
Pupils working at greater depth
Should include sentences to explain the role of each plant part for the main task; should be encouraged to learn their lines by heart for the optional drama activity; could demonstrate prior knowledge by including additional information in the drama task (e.g. I am a deciduous leaf; I use sunlight to make food which provides energy for the plant; I take in carbon dioxide).
