Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support
Could be given pre-written sticky notes with the words roots, stems, leaves, fruits, flowers and seeds to match to the fruits and vegetables in the whole class activity; could be given sorting hoops pre-labelled with roots and fruits and a selection of fruits and vegetables to sort (potatoes, carrots and radishes for roots and apples, oranges and bananas for fruits) as opposed to completing the optional independent task.
Pupils working at greater depth
Could choose and draw their own fruit and vegetables for the optional independent task; should identify plants that have more than one edible part, for example, broccoli (the stem and the flowers are edible) or pumpkin (the seeds and the fruit are edible).
