Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

Could draw and label pictures of objects they can see and hear as opposed to writing sentences; could go on an ‘outdoor senses hunt’ to find examples of things they can touch, taste, smell, see and hear, taking the Knowledge organiser with them for reference.

Pupils working at greater depth

Should draw pictures to represent their own ideas and write about what is happening (e.g. I smell my mum’s perfume and it makes me feel happy; I see the green man and I cross the road; I hear a dog growl and move away); could describe how some people use their senses when doing their job (e.g. a firefighter uses the sense of sight and smell to detect smoke).
