Support and challenge

Adults can use the opportunity to:

  • Suggest different repeating patterns using size, colour and number for the continuous provision task. For example, alternate a large red leaf with a small brown leaf; arrange leaves in a sequence of yellow, red and orange; or place two brown leaves followed by a red one.
  • Demonstrate how natural materials can be used creatively, such as by building a fairy house for Pip or creating an autumn sculpture.
  • Discuss weather-related challenges in the story, such as the wind blowing Pip’s leaves away. Encourage the children to share personal experiences about times when the weather has affected their plans, like rain during a picnic.
