Lesson 6: Summer senses

Recognising changes outside in summer and experiencing the sensations of the seaside. Teach this lesson at the end of Summer 2.

  • Explore the natural world around them, making observations and drawing pictures of animals and plants.
  • Understand some important processes and changes in the natural world around them, including the seasons and changing states of matter.

Support and challenge

Adults can use the opportunity to:

  • Show children a live stream of a UK beach, allowing them to observe real-time weather conditions and activities.
  • Challenge the children to write a wider range of words to describe what can be sensed at the seaside (for example, seagulls, waves, sand, ice cream or wind) during the seaside senses adult-led task.
