Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

Could use base ten (ten sticks) to measure the height of their plants; could present a short video or use an audio device to describe how their plant has grown as opposed to completing the Activity: My plant diary; could design a poster to illustrate what a plant needs for healthy growth, referring to the icons on slide 2 of the Presentation: What do plants need?.

Pupils working at greater depth

Should justify why certain conditions are beneficial but not essential for healthy plant growth (e.g. seeds will germinate without soil but a plant requires soil to stand upright, wind helps strengthen the stem of a plant and disperses seeds and love, care and attention are required to maintain a plant’s healthy growth); should add additional captions when completing step four of their plant diaries (e.g. plants require the right amount of water to stay healthy, seeds will germinate without light but a plant needs light to continue to grow and seeds will not germinate if the temperature is too cold).
