Should use the Resource: Knowledge organiser: Science – Forces and magnets (from the unit Science, Year 3, Forces and magnets) to help them with both the Recap and recall and the Attention grabber activities; could reduce the data collection to only five items; could be shown slide 2 of the Presentation: Model data and choose which variables from the list should have been controlled to help them answer the evaluation questions.
Pupils working at greater depth
Should consider the control variables before starting the experiment; could test the experiment out on a rougher floor (e.g. a playground or carpeted area); should choose a design challenge from the Resource: Friction design challenges and draw and label their design in their book; could choose an extension activity relating to friction from the Resource: Stretch and challenge: Unbalanced forces.
