Recap and recall
Display the Presentation: Circuit symbol bingo and hand out a whiteboard and pen (one each). Ask the children to draw a two-by-three grid and place a circuit symbol in each box (they will need to choose two to leave out).

Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support
Should use the Activity: Predicting and recording results to remind them of the correct symbols to use and have a circuit diagram template to add to; could refer to the symbols and circuit diagrams on page one of the Resource: Knowledge organiser: Science – Circuits, batteries and switches to draw their own diagrams independently.
Pupils working at greater depth
Should consider what content ought to be discussed in a safety video about building circuits in the classroom; could record their own electrical circuit safety video to demonstrate good practice.

Knowledge outcomes
- I can predict whether an electrical circuit will work by looking for a complete loop, a power source and at least one component, such as a bulb or buzzer.
- I can explain why an electrical circuit will or will not work using knowledge of complete circuits, the role of a power source or the need for components to prevent a short circuit.
