What is Scratch Jr?
This video introduces teachers to the skills needed to help pupils use ScratchJr, an introductory block-based coding platform designed for younger learners. It explores how pupils can create simple animations and stories by combining colour-coded blocks, developing their understanding of sequencing, loops, and events in an intuitive way.
The video demonstrates how to navigate ScratchJr, from selecting sprites and customizing backgrounds to constructing scripts that control movement, appearance, and sound. Teachers will see how to guide pupils in building interactive projects that encourage creativity, experimentation, and computational thinking.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing – Coding Skills resources. It simplifies the process, ensuring teachers feel confident and prepared to support pupils in using ScratchJr to develop foundational coding skills.
